What is a Straumann implant?

Straumann is a Swiss implant brand with multiple implant systems, materials and surface technologies. Straumann’s portfolio includes the SLA® and SLActive® implant surfaces. Depending on the specific system and model, implant materials may include grade 4 titanium, the titanium-zirconium alloy Roxolid®, and zirconia within the broader Straumann portfolio.

“Straumann” therefore does not describe one single configuration. The exact implant model, surface, dimensions and restorative plan should be identified for each patient.

Is every Straumann implant made from Roxolid?

No. Roxolid® is Straumann’s titanium-zirconium alloy, described by the manufacturer as approximately 85% titanium and 15% zirconium. It should not be assumed that every Straumann implant uses Roxolid; material depends on the specific system and model.

Patients who want to verify the exact implant planned for treatment should ask for the system name, model and product information.
